Dr. Osama Aldirbashi is a Senior Consultant Clinical Scientist at the Metabolic lab, Department of Lab Medicine and Pathology, Hamad Medical Corporation.
Dr. Aldirbashi is a clinical biochemical geneticist certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics, the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists, and the European Board of Medical Genetics. He attended graduate school at Nagasaki University and completed fellowship training at the Children’s Hospital of East Ontario, University of Ottawa. Dr. Aldirbashi received specific biochemical genetics training at Toronto, Calgary, London, and San Diego. His expertise spans newborn screening, inborn errors of metabolism, mass spectrometry, development of new lab tests and metabolomics biomarker discovery.
During his career, Dr. Aldirbashi led major screening and diagnostic labs in North America and the Middle East where he was instrumental in refining testing methodologies, devolving new screening algorithms, and establishing new screening programs. He was appointed as faculty at medical schools in the Middle East and Canada where he supervised numerous graduate students as well as trainees, fellows and residents. He received several grants and published more than 70 articles in prestigious journals including Pediatrics, Human Genetics, Genetics in Medicine, Clinical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease and others. Throughout his career, Dr. Aldirbashi volunteered on various editorial boards and committees including the International Journal of Neonatal Screening and the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists.
