Professor Hossein Gharib

After earning his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School in 1966, he completed internal medicine residency and fellowship in endocrinology & metabolism at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He joined the Mayo Clinic Staff in 1972 and was promoted to the rank of Professor of Medicine in 1994. Internationally known for his expertise in thyroid disease, Dr Gharib has published more than 200 academic papers and coedited & coauthored 3 endocrine textbooks, including the “Thyroid Nodule” in 2017. He travels worldwide and has lectured at more than 350 national or international endocrine events. He has served as an editorial board member for many journals including JCEM, Thyroid, Endocrine Practice, Acta Endocrinologica (Buc), & US Endocrinology. He is the recipient of many accolades, including awards from the Endocrine Society, ATA, AACE, ACP and an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) from Carol Davila University of Medicine & Pharmacy in Bucharest. He is a past president of American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American College of Endocrinology, and American Thyroid Association.
