Introduction:

Diabetes is a chronic disease that limits the body's metabolism to convert food into energy. Medications and a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and daily physical activity, are an integral part of diabetes treatment plans. These components are crucial for the effective management of diabetes. A healthy lifestyle will benefit patients in the following ways: regulating blood sugar, managing weight, and reducing the risk of diabetes complications.

In addition to helping regulate blood sugar, weight loss offers many health benefits, including a lower likelihood of complications, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and some types of cancer.

Learning Objectives:


Upon concluding this workshop, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the different approaches for improving the motivation of patients with type 2 diabetes.
  2. Identify the importance of meal planning for patients with type 2 Diabetes.
  3. Recognize the critical role of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) in the management of gestational diabetes.
  4. Underline the importance of diet and pharmacotherapy in obesity and diabetes management.
  5. Recognize the effect of insulin resistance on body weight.​
