The fellowship program provides a 2-year advanced clinical training in the field of obstetric anesthesia. Fellows are provided with training for patients undergoing surgery for obstetric and gynecological disorders as well as for managing pain in the labor ward.

Message from Program Director

The Obstetric Anesthesiology Fellowship at the Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) provides a robust learning environment in evidence-based anesthetic management of obstetric patients of various complexity, especially utilizing the opportunity and experience of caring for pregnant women with complex medical co-morbidities. 

WWRC is a tertiary care center providing world class specialized care for obstetrics and gynecology within a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity to look after up to 17,000 births per year. The fellows will receive mentorship and guidance by enthusiastic Obstetric Anesthesiology Fellowship trained faculty. They will be able to take the advantage of our multidisciplinary collaboration with various clinical teams and participate in the development of patient focused care plans. The Obstetric Anesthesiology rotation is the main part of the training program together with other rotations including neonatal intensive care, maternal fetal medicine and obstetric critical care.

Our didactic curriculum includes weekly formal lectures, daily bedside teaching and simulation-based training sessions. Research is strongly encouraged and supported by a team of dedicated research mentors. The fellows will also have opportunities to participate in the education of anesthesia residents and medical students.

Our program is compliant with the ACGME-I requirements and designed to transform anesthesia residents into specialized independent practitioners providing obstetric anesthesia of the highest standard, as well as motivating them to conduct ethical research which promotes improvements in obstetric anesthesia.
