Advanced Nurse Practitioner - Pain Management-HMC
Atef was appointed as Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) - Pain Management at HMC in October 2012, and moved to the role of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) - pain Management in September 2015. His main role is to develop and support the nursing pain management services at HMC.
Prior to his current job, Atef was working with the Inpatient Pain management Services at the University College London Hospitals NHS Trust (UCLH), London-UK. His clinical expertise and experience has been in the acute, chronic and cancer pain management.
Atef studied BSc in Nursing at Jordan University of Science and Technology- Jordan. He completed his MSc in pain management at the University of Leicester- UK. He completed his PhD in acute pain management at the University of Nottingham- UK. His main research and audit interests are in acute pain services, pain management outcomes, pain in the developing countries, and pain in renal patients. He has presented some of his research and audit in international conferences and journals.
Atef has developed the HMC Nursing and Midwifery Pain Management Transformation Plan, established the Pain Management Nursing & Midwifery Network Steering Committee (PMNMN-SC) at HMC and currently undertaking a service review of pain management services across all facilities and services at HMC.
Atef is a member of the British Pain Society-UK and Specialists in Pain International Network-UK (SPIN). He is also the chair of the PMNMN-SC at HMC. He believes strongly in the potential role of nursing, clinical nurse specialists and ANPs in promoting a high quality of pain management for patients’ benefits.
