Martin Steinhoff is Professor and Chair at the Dept. of Dermatology and Venerology at Hamad Medical Corporation, Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Qatar University and Weill-Cornell University Qatar, and Professorial Chair, UCD Charles Institute, University College Dublin, Ireland.

Professor Steinhoff studied Medicine and Human Biology in Germany where he received his MD (magna cum laude), MSc and PhD (summa cum laude) from the University of Marburg. After residency in Dermatology/Venerology, he became Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Muenster in 2002, rising from assistant to full professor in 6 years. He holds board certificates in dermatology, venereology, phlebology and allergy from Germany, and in dermatology from USA, Ireland and Qatar. Before Prof. Martin joined HMC, he was Full professor at the University of California San Francisco, USA, and Chairman at University College Dublin, Ireland.

His clinical fields of interests are eczema/itch, rosacea/acne, psoriasis, bullous diseases, sclerotherapy and wound healing.

Prof Steinhoff’s group studies mediators, receptors and pathways that cause inflammation, cancer or pruritus spanning Systems Medicine, Cell signaling, Neuro-immunology, genomics, proteomics, new therapies.

To date, he has published more than 250 peer-reviewed original articles or reviews, more than 50 book chapters in basic and clinical dermatology (IF: 1018,527; H-index 65). He holds 12 patents, has been consultant for > 25 companies, and serves on the scientific advisory board of various industry partners. He has been P.I. on various human studies/trials. For his research, Prof Steinhoff received several prestigious awards in Germany, USA and Ireland including the Oscar-Gans main research award, Paul Langerhans research award, Rene Touraine lecture award from the European Academy of Dermatology (EADV), for example. He is also member of the board of directors of the European Society of Dermatology Research (ESDR), and honorary member of the Hungarian Society of Dermatology.
