Dr. Majid Alam - Operations Manager


Dr. Majid Alam is the Operations Manager of the TRI, Head of the Histology & Imaging Core facility and a PI with the Dermatology Institute. Dr. Alam achieved his PhD at the Centre for Skin Sciences, University of Bradford, UK.

To further pursue his interest in skin and hair follicle biology, Dr. Alam began his postdoctoral work at the University of Muenster, Germany, where he investigated numerous aspects of human skin and hair follicle biology such as neuroendocrine regulation, wound healing, and hair growth. Subsequently, Dr. Alam joined Monasterium Laboratory GmbH, Germany, as a Staff Scientist where he worked on several projects in collaboration with industrial partners such as Procter & Gamble, Follicum, Giuliani SpA, amongst others). In tandem, Dr. Alam joined Mediteknia Skin & Hair Lab, Las Palmas, Spain, as the Lab Chief leading research and as an Associate Professor at the University Fernando Pessoa Canarias.

Dr. Alam’s research interests include skin and hair follicle neuroendocrinology and immunology, itch, inflammation, with special interest in hair follicle biology/pathology and the molecular mechanisms which lead to diseases such as alopecia. Dr. Alam has numerous publications in several high impact factor journals such as Journal of Cell Biology, Nature Communications, Journal of Investigative Dermatology and is a peer reviewer for several journals.
