World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (18 – 24 November 2021)
CDC marked the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week on 18 to 24 November 2021, with activities aiming to spread awareness on the appropriate use of antimicrobials to the public and healthcare workers. The main themes and messages tackled were "Spread awareness, stop resistance" and "Antimicrobials: handle with care."
On 18 November 2021, CDC held a small celebration to kick start awareness and promotion campaign activities. The program had significant attendance from CDC staff and other HMC facilities: physicians, nursing, pharmacy, admin, and other support staff led by Dr. Muna Al Maslamani, CDC Medical Director. Other participants from HMC included Dr. Abdulsalam Saif (MICU), Dr. Loua Al Shaikh (EMS), Mr. Brendon Morris (EMS). As part of the program celebration in CDC, there was poster competition with significant and enthusiastic participation from CDC staff including Nursing, Admin and Quality. The displayed posters were judged. The winners were: 1st - Quality department, 2nd – Admin, and 3rd - Nursing second floor (inpatient).”
Further to the educational activities, CDC organized educational activities such as a virtual lecture on antimicrobial resistance by Dr. Mas Chaponda (Sr. Consultant of Infectious Diseases). Eighty-five people attended, including healthcare workers from HMC, such as physicians, pharmacy, and nurses. In addition, the College of Health Sciences at Qatar University students and staff, and overseas healthcare facilities from countries like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and India participated in the lecture with questions and answers. Also, during the week there has been social media awareness, containing messages and slogans tackling global health threats and anti-viral drugs. These were also shared as digital displays in a few shopping malls across Qatar.
