On arrival at the Outpatient Department you will be directed to the designated control desk of your clinic appointment. Please note that waiting areas for men are separated from women. Before your appointment, you will be asked for your appointment card and valid health card/other identification papers. 
 
If you are a non-Qatari patient, after presentation of your documents you will be directed to the cashier desk for payment. You should then report to the desk with your payment receipt where you will be assessed by a nurse before seeing a doctor.
 
Preparation for laboratory tests - Required laboratory investigations will be ordered by the physician and signed laboratory forms and specific instructions will be given by the assigned nurse.
 
Preparation for dialysis - Your physician will refer you to a Patient Educator to provide you with guidance about dialysis. If you are a non-Qatari patient you will also be referred to a social worker for payment.
 
Preparation for CT scans - Depending on which part of your body is being scanned, you may need to fast for a period of time beforehand. You will be informed before your appointment whether a period of fasting is required. On arrival at the Outpatient Department, please report to the CT department on your scheduled appointment time.  Please note the following: 
 
* You may be prescribed an oral contrast material to be taken before the procedure
* You may be asked to wear a hospital gown 
* You will need to remove any metal objects, such as jewelry, that might interfere with image results 
* Non-Qatari patients are required to pay for the procedure 
* For pediatric patients (aged up to 14 years) the doctor may administer a sedative to keep him/ her calm, as movement blurs the CT images and may lead to inaccurate results.
 
Preparation for MRI scans - Report to the MRI department on your scheduled appointment time; the following information should help you to prepare for the procedure. You must inform your doctor, and MRI Technician, if there is a metal device implanted in any part of your body. 
 
Preparation for gastroscopy - You and your family will be provided with information regarding any preparations required before your gastroscopy. This will include the date, time of procedure and specific type of preparation. 
 
Preparation for mammography - No special preparation is required for this procedure. 
 
Preparation for any other medical exams or procedures - you will be advised of any preparation necessary for other tests which are available by your physician. These preparations will depend on the required procedure or medical examination.  In terms of brochures which provide a general overview, specific instruction materials will be provided from the radiology department when your appointment is made.​
