Peter Mandl MD, PhD
Peter Mandl, MD, PhD is a consultant at the Division of Rheumatology, Medical University of Vienna, Austria, and a member of the EULAR Network of Imaging Research Centers. After graduating with honors from Semmelweis University, Budapest he completed his doctorate in functional neuroscience with honors at the Nathan Kline Institute in Orangeburg, New York and at Semmelweis University, Budapest.
His major research interests include the use of imaging for diagnosing, monitoring and predicting rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, in particular the utility of ultrasound for the monitoring of inflammation and structural changes in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis.
He is a member of the EULAR Standing Committee of Musculoskeletal Imaging, a prior OMERACT Fellow of the Ultrasound Taskforce, convener of the OMERACT Working Group on cartilage change in rheumatoid arthritis; and coordinated with Mikkel Ostergaard regarding the EULAR recommendations for the imaging of spondylarthritis.
Peter Mandl is associate editor of BMC Medical Imaging and has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters. He has organized and served on the faculty of several national and international musculoskeletal ultrasound courses and workshops, including the EULAR and ACR Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Courses.
