Prof. Medhat Askar, MD, PhD, MSHPE, FRCPath, F(ACHI), D(ABMLI), HCLD(ABB)

Prof. Medhat Askar is alaboratory medicine physician scientist specialized in transplant immunology and cell andgene therapy. Prof. Askar serves as the Clinical Advisor, Vice President for Medical &Health Sciences and Professor of Immunology at Qatar University College of Medicine andleads the Division of Clinical and Transplantation Immunology at Hamad MedicalCorporation.

He also is the Project Lead of the Research & Development Talent Attractionand Support project under the Qatari Ministry of Public Health National Health Strategy2030 (NHS-3), Member of the Advisory Board of the Clinical Trial Unit at Hamad MedicalCorporation, a Member of the Advisory Board of the International Islamic BioethicsAssociation and the Lead of the Health Law and Bioethics Research Network Group atQatar University.

Internationally, he serves as the National Advisor for Clinical Services atthe NMDP, Minneapolis, MN, and a Clinical Professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine,the Chair of the WHO Committee and a member of the executive committee of TheTransplantation Society (TTS), a Board Member of the Worldwide Network for Blood &Marrow Transplantation (WBMT) and the International Regional Advisor of the RoyalCollege of Pathologists for the Americas.

Dr. Askar has previously served as President ofAmerican Society for the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), President of TheAmerican College of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, and elected positions onthe executive committees of the United Network for Organ Sharing in the United States(UNOS). He has published and lectured extensively on transplant immunology, cell andgene therapy, laboratory medicine, quality systems, accreditation, and health professionseducation.
