Mr. Sven Byl
Partner, EY’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Advisory Practice
Mr. Sven Byl is a Partner in EY’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Advisory Practice. He is passionate about improving healthcare across the region and partners with clients to develop opportunities in health system improvement, collaboration, innovation and the implementation of new organisational strategies.
In public healthcare, Mr. Byl’s work has included undertaking a diagnostic of service delivery challenges for a major regional public healthcare system (7 million citizens) as part of a turnaround and change management program, supporting a Ministry of Health in developing a quality and productivity framework for healthcare providers and advising national governments on system strengthening.
In private healthcare, Mr. Byl’s experience includes developing strategies for hospital and pharmaceutical groups in response to government policy and emerging market trends, improving the commissioning capabilities for large medical aid’s (insurance groups) and advising on managed care strategies. He has also led work to improve the quality and productivity of private hospital providers.
Before joining EY, Mr. Byl served as Head of Healthcare and Life Sciences covering Africa for a big four consultancy. Prior to his Africa assignment, he was a Global Executive Director where he advised government officials, public and private providers and payers on healthcare reform, innovation, regulatory policy and quality. He is a highly sought after advisor to payers and providers alike, his work has brought him to 43 countries advising on health system reform, with a special emphasis on rapidly growing economies.
Mr. Byl holds a MA in Public Administration and Public Policy and a Hon. BA in Political Science and Philosophy. He is a member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in the UK.
Born in the Netherlands and raised abroad, today he lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with his wife and their two children. He is competitive sailor in the international J105 class.
