Professor Ahmed BaHammam,
MD, FRCP
Dr. BaHammam, a distinguished Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Professor at King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is a recipient of the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from KSU for his exceptional contributions to sleep medicine service, education, and research.
He is completing his Respiratory and Sleep Medicine training at the University of Manitoba, Canada, under Mier Kryger 1994-1998.
As an accomplished scholar, he authored 340+ peer-reviewed articles, 60+ chapters, four books, and 5 Practice Guidelines. He held editorial positions in prestigious journals like Nature and Science of Sleep.
Dr. BaHammam's research focuses on sleep-related topics, ranking him among the top 2% of researchers in Respirology by Stanford University and Elsevier.
A pioneer in sleep medicine education, Dr. BaHammam established the first Academic Sleep Medicine Service in Arab countries (1999) and introduced the inaugural structured Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program. (2009).
He co-founded medical societies, including the Saudi Thoracic Society, Annals of Thoracic Medicine Journal, Asian Society of Sleep Medicine, and Gulf Sleep Medicine Society.
Currently, as the Executive Director of Academic Affairs at the Medical City, King Saud University, Director of Prince Naif Health Research Center, Director of the University Sleep Research Center, and former Director of the Research Ethics Council at the College of Medicine, King Saud University, Dr. BaHammam plays a pivotal role in advancing sleep medicine, research, and education in the Middle East.
