Dr. Omar is an accomplished Urological Surgeon with a specialized focus on open, robotic, and laparoscopic surgery for both benign and malignant conditions. His journey in the medical field led him through comprehensive training in the United Kingdom, where he completed his Core Surgical Training and Urology Specialty Training. Notably, he achieved his MSc in advanced surgical critical care and went on to earn a PhD in urothelial cancer during his residency training. Further solidifying his expertise, Dr. Omar completed a Senior Endo-Urology and Upper Urinary Tract Surgery Fellowship at the distinguished Bristol Urological Institute, UK. His pursuit of knowledge culminated with a PhD from one of Europe’s largest institutes, the Jan Kockanowski University. The focal point of his thesis was diagnostic and therapeutic dimensions of bladder cancer. Evidencing his commitment to education, Dr. Omar holds the esteemed position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, equivalent to an Associate Professor, at the University of Glasgow's School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing. This role involves active participation in teaching, examining medical students, and serving as an internal examiner for PhD Thesis defenses.Currently, Dr. Omar serves as the Vice Chairman and Acting Chairman of Surgery for Research across all divisions of Hamad Medical Corporation and is head of the Surgical Research Section. He is also the Director of the Clinical and Applied Health Research Department at Qatar University’s Health Cluster. In the realm of clinical practice, Dr. Omar's prowess centers on minimally invasive procedures, prominently including laparoscopy and robotic surgery. His pioneering spirit has led to numerous groundbreaking accomplishments, including being the first surgeon to perform a complete Robotic Nephroureterectomy and bladder cuff excision in both the West of Scotland and across the middle east, as well as Qatar. He holds the distinction of being the first to conduct a laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection and laparoscopic ureteric re-implantation in Scotland and Qatar. He has also demonstrated exceptional proficiency in mentoring trainees, fellows, consultants, and senior consultants in complex robotic procedures.
