Dr. Fahad Al-Kindi is a Senior Consultant in Interventional and Structural Cardiology at University Medical City, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH), Muscat, Oman. He obtained his B.Sc. and
M.D. degrees from Sultan Qaboos University, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in General Cardiology at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar. In 2016, he completed advanced fellowship training in Adult Interventional Cardiology at Dalhousie University, Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Dr. Al-Kindi is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), and an active member of the Canadian Association of Interventional Cardiology (CAIC). He currently serves as Vice President of the Oman Heart Association (OHA), Board Member of the Gulf Heart Association (GHA), and is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Arab Board in Medicine and Cardiology. He is also an examiner and external expert evaluator for Arab Board program center accreditation across the region.
As Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Structural Heart Disease Program at SQUH, Dr. Al-Kindi has pioneered multiple advanced structural and interventional procedures. He led the first case in Oman and the second in the Middle East of transcatheter tricuspid valve implantation using the Lux Plus valve, as well as the hospital’s first cases of percutaneous MitraClip, TriClip, left atrial appendage closure, and patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure. He also performed the first percutaneous transluminal mitral commissurotomy (PTMC) for mitral stenosis in the private sector in Oman.
Dr. Al-Kindi is a distinguished researcher and educator with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has served as an associate editor for a regional medical journal and previously held the position of Associate Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. His research excellence has been recognized through multiple competitive grants, including His Majesty’s Strategic Research Grants, and Best Researcher Awards at Hamad Medical Corporation in consecutive years and at SQUH Department of Medicine in 2022. He was also honored during Sultan Qaboos University Day for outstanding medical achievement, recognizing his pioneering management of a rare and complex adult congenital heart disease case.
