Dr. Gustav Frans Strandvik is a Senior Consultant in the Trauma Surgery Section of Hamad General Hospital and is the Co-director of the Trauma Critical Care Fellowship Program.
His main areas of expertise within the hospital are Trauma Intensive Care and Medical education. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, UK, and a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, UK.
After graduating from medical school in Cape Town, South Africa, he completed his post-graduate training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at Guy’s & St Thomas’, Royal Brompton, and University College Hospitals in London, United Kingdom.
Dr. Gustav worked as a Consultant in the South-East of England for several years. He served as Lead Pediatric Anesthetist, Clinical Improvement Lead, Vascular Access team member, and regularly contributed to teaching at grand rounds, audit closure days, resuscitation training, as well as national meetings. He has authored several book chapters in critical care and anaesthesia and has published articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. His current research interests include similarities and differences in critical illness when the primary insult is trauma.
He joined the Trauma Surgery Section of Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar, in February 2016 as a senior consultant, and is currently serving as the Co-Director of the Trauma ICU. He is an educator and the Co-Director of the Trauma Critical Care Fellowship. He has recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education at the University of Edinburgh.
He firmly believes that physiologically based, evidence-driven, and diligently applied medical skills, knowledge, and professionalism will, as a matter of course, result in sustained quality improvement for patients.
