Anesthesia
An Anesthesia educator provides education about patient care before, during and after delivery of anesthesia and ensuring optimal patient knowledge of the anesthesia procedure and multiple options. She also provides valuable information about general, spinal, regional, epidural, and local anesthetics.
Breast Surgery
A Breast Surgery Educator works diligently with breast surgeons, clinical care specialists, and pathway coordinators both in outpatient and inpatient units including Day Care. They collaboratively create educational materials and programs together making sure patients receive the best information and education throughout their clinic visits and hospital stays. The educator is responsible in explaining pre-operative counseling to patients before their breast surgeries and refers patients with malignancy diagnoses to clinical nurse specialists for more in-depth educational sessions.
Ear, Nose and Throat
The ENT educators obtained diploma in Audiology, trained and knowledgeable in medical and surgical management and treatment of patients with disorders in ear, nose and throat. They work in Ambulatory Care Center closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure transitions of patient care.
Emergency Medicine
the Emergency Department presents special barriers and difficulties to educators who attempt to provide education to acute care situations. This makes these Emergency Medicine educators special too. They give education ranging from diagnoses, medications, home-care, discharge special instructions and arrangement of appointments to extensive emergencies of cases like diabetes, asthma, anaphylaxes, deep-vein-thrombosis, anti-coagulant issues and more . One of two Emergency educators received an “Advanced diploma in Diabetes Education
General Surgery
Surgical education is designed to keep up with the patient and family from pre-operative to post-operative journey of the patient. It aims to improve the outcome of the surgery, decrease risk of complications, and make the procedure as smoothly as possible to the patients and family members who are certainly anxious at these times. It also helps lessen the factors that contribute to morbidity and mortality related to surgery.
Internal Medicine
A PFE educator in Internal Medicine possesses wide-range knowledge, experience and skills about so many diseases. Among her important education contribution include self-management in achieving tailored behavioral and treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes. She is an important team player in the outpatient unit who continually exerts effort in changing the attitude and views of chronic patients who usually get frustrated on their treatments.
Nephrology
Nephrology education is involved not only in inpatient population but also in the community and long-term care. The education varies from providing information about kidney diseases, treatments, medicines, and self-care or home-care. It also highly takes pride on its influence on timely decisions of patients and their families about pre and post dialysis and kidney transplant with the coordination of physicians and nurses.
Neurology
Neurological disorders are so complex and may overwhelm patients and their families. Neurology education is challenged to follow set of techniques to make patients get familiarized with the diagnoses and wide array of treatment modalities of this generation. They continue to assist them throughout recovery and when disabilities related to their disorder slowly progress. It is their task to arrange procedure schedules as well. They also get involved with certain neurologic procedures in both inpatient and outpatient units.
Neurosurgery
Oftentimes, neurosurgery patients are delicate in many different aspects. The care revolves in careful analyses of doctors, nurses and other health care team workers not only on the surgery but to the optimum post-operative state of the patient. Educators ensure that the strategies used are bridging the patients to the plan of care at all times, improving patient hospital experience and creating positive impact on their hospital journey. The educator is also included in evaluating neurosurgical cases during the daily doctors’ rounds.
Pulmonology
The Pulmonology team creates educational plans that are evidenced-based, accurate and updated. It concentrates with patients who suffer from chest and respiratory problems. The team also advocates self-management treatments especially of chronic conditions like asthma, cystic fibrosis, allergy and more as well as performing procedures such as skin-prick test and analysis.
Rheumatology
Our Rheumatology educator supports rheumatology patients in getting information about their diseases and underlying conditions, medications, accessible resources for continuous assistance, and long-term treatment options such as therapies and exercise specific to certain situations.
Stoma Care
This is a prominent resource that offers immeasurable support for patients with stoma whose lives are affected with change in their bodies and perceptions in life because maintaining a foreign pouch in a body may become overwhelming at the beginning. Aside from education, the educator is also responsible directly for the assessment of stoma and peri-stoma skin care, enema, anal dilatation, fistula and bowel management, PEG and tracheostomy care, loop wash, and cauterization of over granulation tissue on stoma area.

Community Service
PFE unit links HMC health care system to the community of Qatar and continuously develops health care programs and activities to improve social and physical environments of each individual. Our goal is to reach to people healthy before they come sick to the hospital. Our educators are equipped with skills, strategies and highly qualified communication skills to teach people from different walks of life about behaviors that promote optimum wellness and recovery. Among the parts of the community that we cover, but not limited to, are schools, workplaces, sports areas, parks, and any affiliation that may need our service.
