Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) recently held its First Qatar Gynecological Malignancy Symposium addressing current and important issues in gynecological oncology, with a focus on the development of collaborative research and training in the GCC and MENA region.
The symposium brought together renowned local, regional and international experts and leaders in the field of gynecological oncology, and included an address during the opening ceremony from Prof. Alexander Knuth, CEO and Medical Director of the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) and Chairman of Cancer Services at HMC. He provided an overview of cancer transformation in Qatar and achievements so far.
Dr. Al Hareth Al Khater, Deputy Medical Director at NCCCR said: “This symposium was a great opportunity for healthcare professionals with an interest in learning and sharing their experience in the field of gynecological oncology to come together for the first time in Qatar. We were delighted to welcome such respected leaders in the field of gynecological malignancies and learn more about the advances being made in research and cancer management.”
The symposium covered key topics such as preserving fertility in cervical cancer patients, managing gynecological cancer during pregnancy, endometrial cancer, and epidemiology. Dr. Salha Bujassoum, Senior Consultant in Hematology/Oncology at NCCCR said: “The symposium consolidated HMC’s commitment to providing the safest, most effective and most compassionate care to each and every one of our patients, sharing the latest research and advances in gynecological oncology care. We believe that this symposium is the first step in creating a community of specialists and leaders in gynecological oncology in this region.”
