This tour is designed for the newly referred mothers to OPD to know more about the maternity services available at Al Wakra Hospital.
The Patient Tour is an improvement initiative designed to translate patient’s needs into higher quality, efficient services and improve overall maternity experiences. The program has been running successfully since May 2015.
The tour of the facility includes the Outpatient Department (OPD), Emergency Department, Antenatal ward, Postnatal ward, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Admitting Department, Cashier and Pharmacy. The tour is conducted every Thursday, starting from the OPD for Ob/Gyn. Registration is available free on-site.
During the tour, visiting mothers learn from experts from different disciplines about any interesting topics related to them as mothers and to newborns. The topics that are discussed during weekly schedules include:
- Antenatal care overview presented by an obstetrician
- Breastfeeding by a lactation specialist
- Pain management and pre-operative instructions by an anesthesiologist
- Hand hygiene by an Infection Control Practitioner
- Metabolic screening by a Well-Baby Clinic nurse
- Skin-to-Skin Care by an obstetric nurse, among others.
