Bone and Joint Centre and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Hamad General Hospital – a member of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) - have organized a course on infant hip ultrasound for health professionals who are handling infants with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH).
The highly-specialized course organized by Dr. Talal Ibrahim, Consultant Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon at HMC, was held at La Cigale Hotel and attended by about 40 participants from Qatar and other GCC countries.
Professor Reinhard Graf, inventor of hip sonography and well-known in the field of orthopedic surgery, was the guest speaker at the course, which provided participants with an understanding of the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of DDH as well as enabling them to perform and interpret ultrasound scans.
Highlights of the three-day course included topics such as anatomy and pathology; image analysis and interpretation; Graf classification; image acquisition; diagnosis; and management. Other activities were hands-on workshops and small group teaching for image analysis and interpretation.
