Doha, 15 August, 2015: The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Al Wakra Hospital (AWH) recently organized an awareness campaign to mark World Breastfeeding Week.
The campaign was held in collaboration with the Mother and Child Education Clinic, Nutrition Clinic and Pharmacy Department at AWH as well as the Supreme Council of Health. The event raised public awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and how to ensure better health for future generations.
“Breastfeeding can benefit both the mother and child. It also helps infants to develop strong immunity against diseases, therefore, we aim at educating the public about the benefits of breastfeeding by organizing lectures, distributing flyers and offering relevant advice to breastfeeding mothers,” said Ms. Fatima Naji, Staff Nurse at Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic in AWH.
Highlights of the breastfeeding week included educational workshops and lectures in English and Arabic to highlight the significance of breastfeeding and its impact on both the mother and child’s health as well as the difficulties that breastfeeding women could face. Also at the event, women were able to meet breastfeeding specialists who encouraged them to continue breastfeeding their children.
A medical team also performed rounds in AWH to deliver the message of the breastfeeding campaign as well as to conduct an electronic survey to enhance their knowledge of breastfeeding.
