Al Wakra Hospital (AWH) – a member of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has launched a range of new services, making it easier for residents in Al Wakra, its surrounding areas, as well as those from Doha to access specialist services closer to their home.

The new services – including a Neurology Clinic and a range of new evening clinics - are part of HMC’s new, innovative model of care which brings more specialist services to our community hospitals. This means patients can access the care they need without having to travel to Doha except for the most highly complex care.

AWH has launched a dedicated Neurology Clinic, which offers comprehensive consultation, evaluation, and treatment for all kinds of neurological problems that result from disorders in the nervous system, such as muscle weakness, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, movement disorders and dizziness. The clinic is managed by Dr. Abbas Elsiddig Khalid El Hadi, Consultant Neurologist, and is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:30 am to 12 pm.

The clinic is embedded within the Outpatient Department at AWH and can be accessed following referral from either a Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) physician or an HMC physician via an internal referral. In some cases referrals from physicians at private healthcare facilities may also be accepted. This new service covers emergency cases at AWH that need urgent neurological consultation and support.

“Since the opening of this clinic, we have already provided neurology consultation to more than 35 patients and we are receiving more patients each day. We receive all kinds of neurology cases; however, the most common are patients with stroke and epilepsy,” Dr. ElSiddig said.

In addition, AWH has also announced the opening of evening clinics for some of its high-demand clinical services such as Orthopedics, Respiratory/Pulmonary, Oral and Maxillofacial, Gastro-intestinal (GI), Urology, Nephrology, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Dermatology, and Cardiology. The hospital will also start evening clinics for General Surgery and Physiotherapy.

These clinics are intended to decrease appointment waiting time for patients and also accommodate a greater number of patients requiring high-quality medical care. The hours of operation for these clinics are from 3pm to 5pm from Sunday through Thursday.

AWH now offers a Valet Parking Service to patients, families, and visitors in an effort to create a more user-friendly hospital experience. This service is available at the main entrance of the hospital (towards the main lobby), at Outpatient Department A, and at the Adult Emergency Unit.

Mr. Wilson Ross, AWH’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, commented on the significance of the newly-launched services: “We are absolutely delighted to bring these patient-centered services to AWH and closer to the community we serve. Our top priority is to ensure that all patients who arrive at the hospital feel welcomed and well-taken care of - knowing that they have easy access to the best care possible.”

Dr. Mahmoud Heidous, Acting Medical Director at AWH said: “This new endeavor supports our commitment to provide the safest, most effective and most compassionate care to each and every one of our patients. We are certain that the introduction of these services will result in improved clinical and operational efficiencies and will create a more positive experience for our patients.”
