The Smoking Cessation Clinic at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will tomorrow host the Regional Workshop on Tobacco Cessation in collaboration with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO).

Head of HMC’s Smoking Cessation Clinic and Senior Consultant in Public Health and Disease Control, Dr. Ahmad Al Mulla, said the workshop will highlight health issues surrounding tobacco and available treatments for tobacco addiction.

Around 40 physicians from HMC, Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra Medical and Research Centre, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, RasGas and Qatar Petroleum, will attend the workshop, Dr. Al Mulla said.

Presenting at the workshop are renowned international speakers including: Dr. Dongbo Fu from WHO; Dr. Mahmoud Al Habiby, Consultant Psychiatrist from Egypt; Dr. Feras Hawari, Director of the Cancer Control Office and the Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care at King Hussein Cancer Center, Jordan; and Dr. Fatimah El Awa, Regional Advisor, Tobacco Free Initiative at the WHO’s EMRO. Other expert speakers from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and global healthcare leader, Novo Nordisk, will also present.

“We expect that the workshop will positively add to the knowledge and experience of participating physicians and enhance their ability to provide quality care to tobacco dependent patients, as it features simulation presentations as well as practical training on nicotine dependence treatment,” Dr. Al Mulla added.
