Doha, 24 February, 2016 – Over 500 delegates have attended a three-day neuroscience conference hosted by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), held over the weekend in Doha.

Local and international experts in neuroscience subspecialties neuroradiology, neurosurgery and neurology presented lectures on stroke, epilepsy, and brain tumors that highlighted advances in imaging methods, new treatments and techniques, and quality improvements in patient care delivery and service enhancements to achieve better patient outcomes.

The conference, held at the Sheraton Hotel, was the first by HMC to combine the three neuroscience specialties into one program, a move welcomed by HMC Chairman of Neuro-surgery and organizing committee member Dr. Ghanim Al Sulaiti.

“The conference format encouraged the collaboration between neurosciences teams at HMC and within other clinical services in Qatar. As an organizing group, the Neuroscience Institute felt this model was a success and will be pursuing a similar format in future neuroscience conferences,” said Dr. Al Sulaiti.

HMC Chairman of Neuroradiology Dr. Ahmed Own highlighted the importance of using the conference as a platform for local clinicians and nurses to learn and share new methods and techniques when delivering their care to patients.

“The brain is the most important organ in the body and can be affected by many things, whether it’s stroke, cancer or neurological disorders such as epilepsy. That’s why these opportunities to discuss how we may be able to collectively improve brain care in Qatar are vital to the development of better care,” said Dr. Own.

The Neuroscience Institute is part of the Academic Health System (AHS) program office hosted by HMC. The AHS is a joint partnership between HMC and Sidra Medical and Research Center, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar University, College of North Atlantic – Qatar, Weil Cornell Medicine – Qatar, and Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, to explore opportunities for medical research, medical education and to improve health and patient care in the population.

The conference was supported by main sponsor Sedeer Medical Services, diamond sponsor Amico, and gold sponsor Al Tafaoal.
