Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Urology Department recently hosted the 3rd Genito-Urethral Reconstructive Live Surgery Workshop bringing together world’s leading experts in genito-urethral reconstruction management.
Genito-urethral reconstruction is a unique procedure often recommended for patients with common and uncommon lower urinary tract and genital conditions, disorders and anomalies.
Around 300 participants comprising eminent professors from academic institutes from the United Kingdom, Italy and India as well as urologists from HMC, GCC and other Arab countries took part in the two-day event.
Day one of the workshop featured presentations by the invited experts focusing on treating and managing adult urethral problems with about eight cases discussed while the second day highlighted ways of treating urethral problems in pediatric (children) showcasing live surgeries by local experts from HMC.
Dr. Abdulla Al Naimi, Chairman of Scientific Committee and Senior Consultant in Urology mentioned that through live demonstrations, lectures and discussions, workshop participants were able to update their knowledge with the best and the latest information on the subjects.
“It was exciting to have brought together world leading experts under one roof at our workshop which is the third of its kind at HMC. The workshop provided participants with an unparalleled opportunity to learn the latest techniques for the management of urethral stricture and erectile dysfunction from clinical experts who are at the cutting-edge of research in the field,” said Dr. Khalid Al Rumaihi, Conference Chairman and Senior Consultant and Head of Urology at HMC.
“Organizing workshops like this one is very significant for HMC in building partnership with world leading experts and also important for exchange of ideas in experiments in the field of urology. The workshop also served as a platform to showcase advanced services and skills available in Qatar and HMC’s obligation of providing education for its physicians,” noted Dr. Al Rumaihi.
He said that the Urology Department receives and treats male adults, who could have developed a genito-urethral problem due to road traffic trauma, repeated endoscopy surgery or infection. Most pediatric cases are born with genitourinary system abnormalities and could have the problems persisting into adolescence and adulthood.
Dr. Al Rumaihi noted that HMC’s Urology Department is uniquely positioned to help patients with genito-urethral problems lead a quality life as it provides cutting-edge services being delivered by a team of well qualified healthcare staff members including surgeons and nurses.
