Doha, 26 February, 2020: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Andrology Center, which is affiliated with the Urology Department, has been recognized as a Center of Excellence for Penile Implants by the US-based Institute for Urological Excellence. The designation makes HMC the first healthcare provider in the region to be acknowledged by the international body, which recognizes excellence and innovation in the field of men's reproductive health.

Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari, Chief Medical Officer at HMC and Dr. Khalid Al Rumaihi, Head of the Urology Department, accepted the award certificate on behalf of the Andrology Center. Dr. Steven Wilson, who is a world-renowned urologist and founder of the Institute for Urological Excellence, bestowed the honor, noting the significance of being recognized among the world’s best andrology clinics and specifically the achievement of becoming the first Center of Excellence for Penile Implants in the region.

Dr. Al Ansari said that HMC’s recognition on the international stage is the direct result of the high-caliber and expertise of staff who work at the Andrology Center. He said since the Center was established in 2007 at Hamad General Hospital, there has been a conscious focus to remain at the forefront of new developments and techniques in the field of men's reproductive health and specifically penile implant procedures. Dr. Al Ansari congratulated the Unit’s medical, technical, nursing, and support staff and acknowledged the importance of the service they provide to patients.

Dr. Al Rumaihi noted that the Andrology Center provides high-quality, individualized care and attributed the high level of success achieved at the clinic to the skills of staff.

“The Andrology Center at Hamad General Hospital is focused on the treatment of conditions affecting male fertility, sexual dysfunction, and urethral anomalies. Each year we perform around 150 surgeries, including procedures to correct congenital anomalies and penile prosthesis implant surgeries. We have some of the region’s best andrologists and have achieved very high success rates for our patients, largely due to the expertise of our physicians and their commitment to learning and using cutting-edge medical and surgical techniques,” said Dr. Al Rumaihi.

“Due to our Unit’s reputation, we have been able to work with a number of international organizations who are affiliated with the world’s most recognized and renowned andrology medical professionals. These relationships are an important part of ensuring we remain up-to-date with developments in the field while also providing a platform to discuss and exchange innovative ideas,” added Dr. Al Rumaihi.

As part of the award ceremony, Dr. Riadh Alzubaidi, Urology/Andrology Senior Consultant and Head of the Andrology Unit was awarded the Institute’s Certificate of Distinction, making him one of the world’s top five surgeons in the field of penile implants. He said it was an honor to lead the team at Hamad General Hospital’s Andrology Unit.

“Both our Center being acknowledged as a Center of Excellence and my recognition as a leading surgeon in the field of men’s reproductive health is a tremendous honor and the result of the team at Hamad General Hospital’s Andrology Center. I would also like to acknowledge HMC’s Urology Department, without which we would not have access to the most advanced supplies, equipment, and training opportunities. As part of ensuring we provide our patients with the best possible care and that we continue to achieve high success rates for the procedures we perform, our doctors complete the latest specialized training, both in Qatar and abroad,” said Dr. Alzubaidi.
