Doha 31 December 2021: Hamad Medical Corporation’s Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital (HMGH) has been designated as a COVID-19 treatment facility from today – expanding HMC’s capacity to provide high-quality care to patients with COVID-19.

Patients with COVID-19 experiencing moderate to severe symptoms will be admitted to HMGH where they will receive treatment to manage their symptoms while being closely monitored.

HMGH was one of the core COVID-19 facilities during the first two waves of the virus in Qatar .

Throughout 2021, the Field Hospital at HMGH has continued to provide high-quality care to a small number of COVID-19 patients, but this latest move will designate the main hospital for only COVID-19 patients.

The decision to transform HMGH into a COVID-19 treatment facility is part of the healthcare sector’s proactive plan to ensure it can manage any potential escalation in the number of patients testing positive for the virus in the coming weeks. HMC has three main hospitals dedicated to caring for patients with COVID-19: the Communicable Disease Center, The Cuban Hospital, and HMGH (and Field Hospital).

Non-COVID-19 patients currently admitted to HMGH will be safely transferred to other HMC facilities. All outpatient services at HMGH have been temporarily suspended until further notice. Non-COVID-19 patients will continue to receive excellent care at Hamad General Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital and Al Khor Hospital.

HMGH’s Emergency Department remains open as normal to treat life-threatening emergency medical conditions transferred by the Ambulance Service.
