Doha, 7 May 2025: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is reaffirming its commitment to delivering high-quality, specialized care for patients with thyroid cancer through its dedicated multidisciplinary thyroid care program.
Thyroid cancer is among the most common cancers in Qatar, particularly affecting women. Women are three times more likely to develop thyroid cancer than men, with incidence rates varying significantly by age, gender, and ethnicity. With rising awareness and advances in diagnostic technologies, detection rates have steadily increased. However, despite the increase in incidence, the morbidity and mortality rates have fortunately remained stable.
HMC’s comprehensive thyroid cancer services are designed to guide patients through every step of their journey - from diagnosis to long-term recovery - under the care of a collaborative team of experts.
“At HMC, our focus is not only on clinical excellence but also on providing a complete patient experience,” said Dr. Mahmoud Zirie, Senior Consultant, Endocrinology and Chairman of the Thyroid Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at HMC. “From the moment a patient enters our care, they are supported by a multidisciplinary team that tailors each stage of treatment to their specific needs.”
Dr. Zaina Rohani, Senior Consultant, Endocrinology and Member of the Thyroid MDT at HMC, outlined the key elements of the thyroid cancer care pathway:
- Prompt Detection: comprehensive ultrasound and Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) services.
- Surgical Management: Expert dedicated team of surgeons with outstanding performance
- Personalized Treatment: Tailored Radioactive Iodine (RAI) Therapy, goal-based suppressive therapy and advanced targeted therapy.
- Long-Term Follow-Up: Dedicated clinics and clinical nurse specialist support
- Patient Education: Access to multilingual care teams and culturally sensitive support
“By combining evidence-based guidelines with compassionate care, HMC continues to set the benchmark for thyroid cancer treatment in the region,” Dr. Rohani concluded.
Dr. Tania Jaber, Consultant, Endocrinology and Member of the Thyroid MDT at HMC emphasized: “HMC’s multidisciplinary thyroid team brings together specialists from endocrinology, surgery, oncology, radiology, nuclear medicine, pathology, and nursing. Through this integrated approach, we ensure each patient benefits from a seamless, evidence-based care experience. This integrated care model is strengthened through coordinated appointment scheduling, dedicated care coordination teams, and a strong focus on patient empowerment.”
