HMC Supports Mental Health Services Across Qatar
Increase of Inpatient Services at Mesaieed General Hospital and Expansion of Specialist Mental Health Support for Women
Doha, 8 October 2025 – Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Mental Health Services have undergone significant expansion to better meet the needs of patients and visitors.
The National Mental Health Helpline (16000) continues to play a vital role in improving access to care by providing immediate support from trained professionals. HMC has also launched a specialized Women’s Mental Health Helpline, offering safe, confidential, and comprehensive care tailored to women’s mental health needs.
Delivered by a team of experienced Arabic and English-speaking professionals, the service provides psychological support during crises, grief counseling, medication and lifestyle consultations, breastfeeding support, and guidance through hormonal changes at different stages of life. Through these virtual services, HMC ensures that women receive compassionate, personalized care whenever and wherever they need it.
In line with its ongoing commitment to expanding patient-centered care, HMC has increased inpatient services at Mesaieed General Hospital, which now serves as the main hub for adult inpatient mental health care. This expansion represents a major step forward in improving access to specialized care in a safe and supportive environment for recovery. Additional inpatient services continue to be provided at Bayt Al Dhiyafa for women and at Muaither Residential Compound for long-term mental health care.
HMC has also developed a wide range of specialist services, including perinatal mental health, forensic psychiatry, older adult psychiatry, intellectual disabilities, and child and adolescent mental health.
At Hamad General Hospital, a consultation and liaison mental health service supports patients with both physical and psychological needs, ensuring a holistic approach to care. In partnership with the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), HMC continues to expand community-based mental health clinics, integrating psychiatry services into selected health centers across Qatar. These clinics offer accessible care closer to home, reduce stigma, and encourage early treatment.
To streamline access, HMC is developing a Single Point of Access system, where all referrals will be centrally managed to ensure patients are quickly connected to the right service. Another priority is to expand access to psychological and talking therapies, providing more treatment options beyond medication.
Research remains a cornerstone of HMC’s approach to improving mental health services. Ongoing clinical studies are being translated directly into practice, enhancing patient outcomes and reinforcing Qatar’s position as a regional leader in mental health care.
Looking ahead, a hospital development program has been endorsed that includes the completion of new inpatient facilities in Doha and further enhancements at Mesaieed General Hospital, ensuring the continued delivery of modern, high-quality inpatient mental health services.
