Recognizing the therapeutic benefits of reading and the importance of offering comforting and engaging activities for patients, their families, and staff, CPESE has developed the Person-Centered Care Library project. This initiative aims to enhance the experiences of patients, their families, and staff by providing a mobile library cart filled with a diverse selection of reading materials in various genres and languages directly to patients’ bedsides, as well as to their caregivers and facility staff. The project is designed to offer a valuable and enriching experience, especially for those with limited proficiency in English and Arabic.

The key features of the PCC Library include:

  • Varied Collection: The library boasts a diverse range of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, self-help, and children's books, ensuring there is something for every interest and age group.
  • Accessibility: The mobile nature of the library means it can be easily transported from room to room, ensuring that all patients, regardless of their mobility or location within the hospital, have access to this resource.
  • Personalized Service: Trained PCC Ambassadors and staff members assist patients in selecting books that match their interests and preferences, providing a personalized touch to the service.
  • Therapeutic Value: Reading is known to reduce stress, alleviate boredom, and provide a mental escape, contributing to the overall wellbeing and recovery of patients.

The PCC Library project has been launched at the following HMC facilities:

  • Qatar Rehabilitation Institute
  • Ambulatory Care Center
  • Enaya and Daam Specialized Care Center
  • Communicable Disease Center
  • Al Wakra Hospital

The PCC Library is part of a broader effort to create a more person-centered environment, focusing on the holistic wellbeing of patients. It offers a selection of books, magazines, and other reading materials to patients during their hospital stay, ensuring that everyone has access to engaging and comforting activities. The library not only enriches the patient experience but also supports HMC’s mission to deliver compassionate, person-centered care. By offering a simple yet effective means of entertainment and comfort, the library plays a crucial role in improving the hospital environment and enhancing patient satisfaction.
