
Professor Jack Ende, MD, MACP
President of the American College of Physicians (ACP)
He is the Schaeffer Professor of Medicine of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He also is the President of the American College of Physicians (ACP).
Dr. Ende earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1973 and completed internal medicine residency and chief residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals in 1979. The first 10 years of his career were spent on the faculty at Boston University Medical Center as a general internist, teacher and residency program director. In 1989, he joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania where he has continued to practice as a general internist and established a reputation as an accomplished medical educator. From 1994-95 he served as President of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM). Dr. Ende has won numerous awards for clinical practice and teaching, at the local and national level, including the APDIM Founders Award, the SGIM Career Achievement Award and the Pennsylvania Chapter ACP Laureate Award. He contributes frequently to the literature in medical education, physical diagnosis, and other areas related to general internal medicine and teaching. He currently is an editor of Academic Medicine, and recently series editor for Teaching Medicine, the seven-book series published by the ACP. His service to the ACP has also included several editorial positions for MKSAP, various committee leadership posts, and membership on the Board of Regents prior to his becoming President of that organization in 2017.
Dr. Ende continues to care for patients and teach at the University of Pennsylvania Health System in the outpatient and inpatient setting. He is the Executive Medical Director of Penn Signature Services, and co-director of Penn Medicine’s Academy of Master Clinicians.
