Clinical director of psychiatric services at HMGH


 

Dr Javed currently works as a senior consultant psychiatrist at HMC. He is a clinical director of psychiatric services at Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital (HMGH) in Doha. He is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the School of Medicine at Qatar University. He is currently the chair of scientific committee for 9th Qatar International Mental Health Conference 2023. He has led the development of pioneering mental health services for skilled migrant workers and craftsmen in Qatar. He has contributed to development of national mental health guidelines for depression and anxiety in the state of Qatar. 

Dr Javed did his psychiatry training (residency) and advanced psychiatry training at University College London (UCL) and Royal Free. After passing his MRCPsych in 2005. he received his certificate of completion of training (CCT) in 2010. He worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the National Health Service (NHS) for more than 8 years before joining Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), and member of British Neurosciences Association (UK), International Brain Research Organization (France) and Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (Germany). 

Because of his interest in poetry, he also manages the UK-based peer-reviewed literary journal 'The Beautiful Space-A Journal of Art, Mind and Poetry'. He has widely published in peer reviewed medical journals and his main research interests include neuropsychiatry, psychiatric aspects of COVID-19, migrant mental health, physical health in mental illness, philosophy of mind and early intervention in psychiatry.
