Prof. Edward William Hillhouse

Prof. Edward Hillhouse, a specialist in Endocrinology, joined Hamad Medical Corporation in 2011 as its Chief Policy Advisor on Academic Health Systems and Acting Chief of Medical, Academic and Research Affairs at Hamad Medical Corporation. He currently holds the dual roles of Chief of Scientific, Faculty and Academic Affairs and Consulting Director for the Association of Academic Health Centers International, focusing on developing the Academic Health System in Qatar for HMC.
 
Prior to this he was Professor of Medicine at the University of Leeds where he held senior academic posts as Dean of the School of Medicine, Faculty Dean of Medicine and Health and Dean for International Development. He also served as Non-Executive Director on the board of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the largest hospitals in the UK with 3,000 beds. Under his leadership the Faculty of Medicine at Leeds was transformed with a new vision and strategy that led to the creation of several major interdisciplinary research institutes housed in new buildings. 
 
He has also held the post of Foundation Professor of Medicine and Director of the Molecular Medicine Research Centre at the University of Warwick where he established the Medical Research Institute and laid the foundations for biomedical and clinical research. He is a founder member and Consulting Director of the International Association of Academic Health Centers and is passionate about the role of Academic Health Centers as vehicles for innovation and health improvement.
 
He graduated in medicine from St Thomas’s Hospital in London (King’s College) where he also studied for his PhD. He undertook general professional training in Oxford, London and Southampton before completing specialist training in Boston, Melbourne and London.
 
Prof. Hillhouse also holds the titles of Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, as well as Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Leeds
