Dr. Torsten Haferlach, Director Munich Leukemia Lab
Dr. Torsten Haferlach spent the first part of his career as a medical doctor and haematologist at the university clinics in Kiel and Göttingen, then at the university clinic in Munich (LMU) where he acted as both the Senior Physician at the Department of Internal Medicine and the Head of the Laboratory for leukaemia diagnostics.
In 2005, he set up the Munich Leukemia Laboratory (MLL) (www.mll.com) together with three colleagues from complementary disciplines. Today the lab processes over 140,000 blood or bone marrow samples per year and treats more than 5,000 patients annually . More than 830 articles have been published in top ranking, peer‐reviewed medical journals since the lab’s inception. Dr. Haferlach has authored and co-authored more than 740 peer-reviewed articles. He is also the co-author of the new WHO Classification 2022.
The Munich Leukemia Laboratory has 380 employees and is a central reference laboratory providing diagnostic services for Germany and for international studies in haematology.
The MLL offers services seven days a week, including cytomorphology, cytogenetics, FISH, immunophenotyping and molecular genetics, as well as whole genome sequencing and whole transcriptome sequencing.
