Dr. Tawny Smith, PharmD, BCPP
Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Dell Medical School, TX

 After graduating with her Pharm.D. degree, Dr. Smith completed a psychiatric pharmacy practice residency (1998-1999) and clinical sciences fellowship in mental health outcomes (1999-2001) at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. She has been a board certified psychiatric pharmacist since 2001. She is  Associate Professor of Psychiatry for Dell Medical School (DMS) and maintains an adjunct faculty appointment with the College of Pharmacy. Prior to her recent move to DMS, she served as a Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist for the Seton Healthcare Network for 10 years, as well as serving as the psychiatric pharmacy residency program director for 12 years.. Dr. Smith is one of the core faculty for the DMS psychiatry residency program and in 2014 was the recipient Psychiatry Residency Program Faculty of the Year award and in 2018 the Teacher of the Year award. She has also delivered numerous educational presentations to the community and other health professionals at local, state and national conferences throughout her career. She has over 60 published abstracts, peer reviewed articles and book chapters in the area of psychiatric pharmacy. Dr. Smith continues to practices at Seton Shoal Creek Hospital where she runs the psychopharmacology consult service. She also provides clinical supervision for psychiatry residents in the Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic and the Women’s Mental Health Clinic. Her clinical interests include treatment resistant depression, women’s mental health and psychopharmacology consultation. In her free time she enjoys running, travel, cooking/baking, and spending time with her husband and their two children
