Prof. Samar Alhomoud

Samar Alhomoud is a Colorectal Surgeon Professor and Section Head at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She is one of the first Saudi female in colorectal surgery.

• Chair of The Ethics Committee at International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the WHO (First chair from the Middle East Region)
• Honorary Visiting Consultant Surgeon at St. Mark’ Hospital in the United Kingdom
• Awarded the King Abdulaziz Medal of honor of the First Class by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia in December 2018 for her outstanding contributions in the field of research and cancer
• Awarded 2019 WHO Kuwait Prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region as first Saudi to receive such award in recognition of her work in lower burden of cancer in the region
• Member of the Advisory Board of the CanScreen5 project at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
• Member of editorial committee of the World Health Organization. (2020). WHO report on cancer: setting priorities, investing wisely and providing care for all
• Executive member of Gulf Center for Cancer Control and Prevention (GCCCP)
• Regional expert in the field of colorectal cancer screening & prevention and was involved in drafting several national, international & WHO Regional policy statements and recommendations. She sits on numerous influential committees
