Dr. Meredith Fendt-Newlin is a Technical Officer and Mental health focal point in the World Health Organization (WHO) Health Workforce Department. As the mental health focal point, Meredith brings over 10 years of experience in mental health social work and commitment to enhancing support, protection and safeguarding rights of health and care workers globally.
Meredith's work also includes technical support of the Working for Health programme, coordinating its Multi-Partner Trust Fund, Technical Secretariat, and implementation across more than 40 countries, regional economic zones and global public goods to optimize, build and strengthen human resources for health.
She previously worked in the Mental Health and Substance Use Department at WHO headquarters, the European Regional Office and the WHO Country Office in Turkey. Prior to WHO she worked as a senior researcher on practice-based interventions for mental health workers in low and middle-income countries. She holds a PhD in social work and social policy from the University of York.
