Mehmet Zileli, M.D.

Dr.Mehmet Zileli graduated from Ege Medical School in 1980 and finished his residency program of Ege Neurosurgery Department in 1986. He became an Associate Professor in 1989 and Professor of Neurosurgery in 1996. He worked in Ege University, Izmir, Türkiye till January 2023. He is now a part time faculty member in Sanko University Gaziantep, Türkiye. 

He worked as a research fellow in Erlangen, Germany (Johannes Schramm; 1987-1988) with a grant from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He also worked New Mexico, USA and Phoenix, USA for short term research fellow.

His current appointments include the following Professor of Neurosurgery, Sanko University, Gaziantep, Türkiye, February 2023-present, Honorary President, Middle East Spine Society, Spine Section Editor, World Neurosurgery, since 2018.

Dr. Zileli’s past appointments are: First and Founding President, Spine Section of Turkish Neurosurgical Society (1995-1999), President of Turkish Neurosurgical Society (2006-2008), Turkish Neurosurgery Board (2010-2012), World Spinal Column Society (2010-2014), Middle East Spine Society (2011-2015), Asia Pacific Cervical Spine Society (2014-2015), Chairman WFNS Spine Committee, 2017-2021.

Dr.Mehmet Zileli has important contributions to education and training of spine surgeons in Turkey. He is the chairman of the courses since 1997 named as “Dr.Mehmet Zileli Advanced Spine Surgery Course” by Turkish Neurosurgical Society. In 2023, the course was already on its 22nd meeting. 

He has also organized three cadaver courses (2003, 2005, 2010). He has provided a spine fellowship program to more than 100 fellows. 

He is the author or co-author of 205 scientific articles, editor of 10 books, author of 25 international and 82 national book chapters. He has presented thousands of papers or gave lectures in international meetings and national meetings. He is a member of 14 national and 20 international medical societies. He is the editorial board member and/or reviewer of 35 scientific medical journal.
