Dr. Humberto Garcell

Humberto Guanche Garcell studied medicine in La Havana University of Medical Sciences (1981-1988) and received the master’s degree in Epidemiology by the Institute of Tropical Medicine Pedro Kouri (2000) and the Diploma in Hygiene and Epidemiology in 2008.  The assistant professor diploma was granted in 2006 and is currently finishing PhD in topics related with Medical Education. In 2011 to 2016, he was consultant epidemiologist at The Cuban Hospital (Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar). He is also an assistant researcher at the Cuban Academy of Sciences. During the last 20 years, had conducted several research in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, including infection prevention in healthcare facilities, antimicrobial stewardship, antimicrobial resistance. He has contributed more than 150 papers published in medical journals and books published in Cuba and overseas. He is also a member of The International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (Argentina) and the PROA-Cuba team (supported by the Panamerican Health Organization).
