Dr. Ibrahim Yusuf Abubeker

Dr. Ibrahim Yusuf Abubeker is an Attending Physician in General Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic Rochester and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Brown University, where he subsequently served as Core Faculty, Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Co-Director of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Program. Prior to that, he completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Hamad Medical Corporation, where he was Chief Resident and led POCUS program development. He also pursued a General Internal Medicine Fellowship at Hamad Medical Corporation, serving as Chief Fellow.

Dr. Abubeker is deeply committed to improving healthcare delivery in resource-limited settings, particularly in East Africa, and has been actively involved in refugee health initiatives in Rhode Island during his tenure at Brown Medicine. Passionate about medical education, he teaches core clinical skills with a focus on physical examination, bedside procedures, and POCUS, and plays a key role in simulation-based training aimed at enhancing care escalation practices.

His dedication to teaching and mentorship has been recognized through multiple honors, including the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award, the Dean’s Positive Champion for Learning Environment Award, the Resident Teaching Award, and the Excellence in Primary Care Award. He was also named Best Senior Resident during his training at Hamad Medical Corporation.

Currently, Dr. Abubeker’s clinical practice centers on Consultative Medicine, International Medicine, and Executive Medicine at Mayo Clinic Rochester. He is presently serving as the Practice Chair for Destination Medicine, where he continues to advance patient-centered care, global health collaboration, and innovative medical education.
