​Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis: An Introductory Workshop

This one-day workshop will introduce participants to the methods used in Cochrane Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses that evaluate the effects of interventions used health care. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the role that well-conducted systematic reviews and meta-analyses can play in informing health decisions 
  • Understand the components of a systematic review and how they differ from traditional review articles
  • Be familiar with framing answerable research questions and searching for relevant studies using multiple sources
  • Be familiar with the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool
  • Understand the methods of data-synthesis and how to interpret forest plots; 
  • Be able to detect and quantify heterogeneity and understand how heterogeneity can be explored in sub-group and sensitivity analyses
  • Understand how to construct Summary of Findings tables and Evidence Profiles for key outcomes from the systematic review that link the numerical estimates of effects with the overall confidence one can place in these estimates and understand how these summaries can guide health policy and practice.
