Prof. Dr. med. habil. Peter Egbert Hermann Schwarz is an internationally recognized expert in diabetes prevention and care. Born in Eisenberg, Thuringia, Germany, in 1971, he pursued medical training across Germany, Namibia, and the USA, gaining broad exposure to global healthcare systems. He became a specialist in Internal Medicine in 2007 and earned his habilitation in the same year. Currently, he holds a professorship in Internal Medicine at the Technical University of Dresden, where he also leads the Department of Prevention and Care of Diabetes.
Prof. Schwarz has held numerous leadership roles throughout his career, including serving as Research Director at the University of Helsinki and leading several European projects on diabetes prevention and management. His work has had a lasting impact on diabetes research, especially in creating guidelines and training programs for diabetes prevention managers across Europe.
In addition to his academic and research responsibilities, Prof. Schwarz is an active member of global diabetes organizations. He is the President-elect of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and holds influential positions in various European and international health initiatives. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles and 48 book chapters, with his research being widely cited in the field of metabolic diseases.
With a Master of Business Administration in international business and extensive experience in telemedicine and digital health, Prof. Schwarz continues to drive innovation in diabetes care and prevention on a global scale.
