Stefano Iacobelli, M.D., Ph.D. (Italy) 

Stefano Iacobelli, M.D., Ph.D. was Full Professor of Medical Oncology and Director of the Cancer Clinic at the University “G. D’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, Italy from 1986 to 2013. He is Director of the Italian Consortium of Bio-Oncology. From 1974 to 1976, Dr. Iacobelli was the Distinguished Scientist at Université Libre de Bruxelles, and Research Director at Imperial Cancer Research Fund, in London, UK from 1977 to 1979. He was also Associate Professor of Oncology at the Catholic University of Rome, Italy from 1980 to 1986. Since 2002, Dr. Iacobelli served as Coordinator of the PhD program in Molecular Oncology at the University “G. D’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, Italy. In 2001, Dr. Iacobelli co-founded U3 Pharma. In 2009, he founded MediaPharma. 

Dr. Iacobelli has authored or co-authored more than 250 scientific articles and papers (H-index = 37) focusing on growth control mechanisms, homone receptor functions and laboratory and clinical development of anticancer drugs. At present, he and his colleagues are concentrating on the discovery and development of monoclonal antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates.

Dr. Iacobelli’s academic honors included the 1989 Stefania Ruotolo Memorial Award and Lecture, Golfo d’Oro, the 1996 Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Award for Scientific Distinction, the 1997 Brinker International Award for Cancer Research, the 2006 Special Award, Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca sul Cancro (AIRC) for his outstanding contributions to cancer research leading to significant improvement in patient care, the 2011 Seventh Aultman Cancer Research Award.
