Dr. Emad Rakha 

Is a Senior Consultant Pathologist at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar, and Professor of Breast Pathology at the University of Nottingham, UK. He also holds adjunct professorships at two other universities. He ran a nationally and internationally recognised breast pathology referral service in Nottingham, managing more than 350 complex referral cases annually over many years before joining HMC. 

He is Co-Chair of the UK External Quality Assurance (EQA) Scheme and serves on multiple national and international committees in breast pathology, biobanking, and screening. Professor Rakha is widely recognised as an international authority in breast pathology, with expertise in the diagnosis and classification of breast diseases, evaluation of clinical outcomes, and investigation of mechanisms underlying hormone response and tumour progression. 

He has secured major research grants and collaborates with international partners to pioneer the digitisation of breast pathology, applying artificial intelligence to develop advanced diagnostic and prognostic tools. He has authored more than 570 peer-reviewed publications, written the UK national HER2 guidelines, and contributed to numerous national and international guidelines and textbooks, including the UK Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) Breast Datasets and the WHO Classification of Tumours (Blue Book). 

He is also Editor of the Breast Pathology textbook, to be published by Cambridge University Press in early 2026. Dr Rakha directs the annual Nottingham Breast Pathology Masterclass and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international training courses and scientific meetings.
