Dr. Peter Valentine Coyle MD FRCPath
Joined Hamad Medical Corporation Qatar (HMC) in March 2017 as a senior consultant and head of virology. Qualified in medicine and trained in microbiology & virology in Belfast and Atlanta. Admitted Fellow of the College of Pathologists (London) and completed a Doctoral Thesis at Queens University Belfast and appointed consultant clinical virologist in Belfast in 1986. Holds Honorary post of Professor of Microbiology with the Welcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine, QUB and an Adjunct Professorship in the BRC of Qatar University.
Provides leadership for the clinical virology service, and support for Public Health where he has contributed to expert committees, most recently on MPOX and Dengue. He was a member of 2 WHO writing groups that published on Target Test Profiles for MPOX in 2023 and new guidelines for dengue fever in 2025. He Chairs the HMC DLMP Research Committee and has a research interest in respiratory virus transmission. Better communication with health care workers and the general public is also an interest and in this regard he collates a 2 weekly summation of clinical virology cases for clinical colleagues and Public Health.
