Professor Abdul Badi Abou Samra, Chief Quality Officer HMC

The speaker is an academic MD/PhD physician scientist certified in internal medicine and in endocrinology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He worked at several international academic institutions, which include Lyon I University, France for 5 years, the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland for 2 years, Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital for 21 years, and the Wayne State University School of Medicine for 5 years where he was Professor of Medicine, Professor of Physiology and Professor of Molecular Genetics, Chief of the endocrine division, Director of the endocrinology fellowship program and Director of a T32 endocrine research training program.

Professor Abou-Samra led research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) between 1986 until 2014 and by the Qatar National Research Foundation (QNRF) since 2015. He published over 237 original papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to 5 USA patents. He served as a member of the NIH endocrine study section and member of editorial board for several international journals. 

Prof. Abou-Samra joined HMC in 2013 as chairman of Medicine; he then became the Chief Quality Officer in 2020. He is also Director of the Qatar Metabolic Institute, deputy for the Chief Medical Officer, and Co-Chair for the Qatar National Diabetes Committee.
