Ascension
Cheryl De Kleine, Esq., assumed the position of the Senior Director, Claims and Litigation Counsel at Ascension Insurance in July of 2016 and then became the AVP, Claims, Litigation & Risk Management in December 2019. In her role as AVP, she oversees all general liability and professional liability claims/suits across Ascension, the CORE / Basket 1 program and the risk management teams within the Ascension ministries. Ms. De Kleine has dedicated more than 25 years of her career working exclusively with healthcare providers and facilities in multiple states. Prior to joining Ascension, Ms. De Kleine held the position of Vice President of Claims and Litigation for Stanford University Medical Network Risk Authority, LLC (The Risk Authority Stanford), as well as Director of Claims and Litigation for Stanford Healthcare and Stanford Children’s Health. In addition to her claims role at Stanford, Ms. De Kleine provided healthcare consulting services on a national and international level. She was also previously employed within the professional liability insurance industry, as Director of Claims for Coverys, a medical malpractice insurance carrier, and involved in supervising claims and litigation in 13 states on the east and west coast. In addition to her claims and insurance experience, she also held a position as a medical liability defense attorney representing healthcare providers and hospitals through all phases of investigation and litigation. Prior to defending healthcare providers, she served as a law clerk for the Superior Court of the State of New Jersey for the Honorable Barbara Zucker-Zarett. Ms. De Kleine was also privileged to be an adjunct professor teaching History for 13 years.
