Al Wakra Hospital’s hosted Person-Centered Care Roadshow

From 17 to 19 November 2024, Al Wakra Hospital (AWH) hosted its first Person-Centered Care (PCC) Roadshow in collaboration with Center for Patient Experience and Staff Engagement (CPESE). The roadshow’s theme, “Moments in Bloom,” symbolizes how people, like flowers, flourish when nurtured with the right environment, care, and attention. It features Qatar’s cultural heritage symbols such as the Qatar flower and Sidra tree, reflected the hospital’s deep connection to its community.

The event commenced with the opening ceremony, graced by the presence of HMC distinguished leaders, guests and colleagues, featured keynote speakers, Dr. Sabah Al Kadhi AWH’s CEO and Medical Director and Mr. Nasser Al Naimi HMC’s Chief of Patient Experience and Director of Ha​​mad Healthcare Quality Institute, and Dr. Omar Al-Qahtani, Deputy Medical Director, followed by two main roadshow events: one at AWH main lobby and the other at Al Maha Pediatric Specialized Care Center (AMPSCC). 

Dr. Sabah Alkadhi launched the opening ceremony delivering his keynote with deep gratitude for CPESE and the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) for their contributions to AWH’s PCC journey. “The invaluable support from CPESE and ACC has been instrumental in helping us design, implement, and sustain person-centered practices at AWH”, said Dr. Sabah.

In his address, Mr. Nasser Al Naimi reflected on the beginnings of Planetree International. He shared, “Planetree International was established in 1979 by Angie Thieriot to ensure patients felt safe during their hospital treatment. Establishing PCC committees and PFAC groups is like sowing seeds to understand and support our patients better. These efforts, since our partnership with Planetree in 2018, have laid a strong foundation for the PCC Program at our organization. Today, this initiative continues to grow and thrive across nine HMC facilities.” Mr. Nasser expressed confidence in AWH to achieving the Gold Certification for Excellence in PCC, emphasizing their hard work and dedication to compassionate, person-centered healthcare.

The transformational journey of AWH was showcased through a captivating video presentation created by Ms. Muna Atrash, PCC specialist. It began with the planetree origin story, inspired by the planetree international methodology unveiled AWH’s milestones toward excellence in PCC.

Ms. Parwaneh Elias Shibani, AWH’s Executive Director of Nursing (EDoN), used the special day to announce the launch of new PCC extraordinary initiatives, which include the PCC Library: bringing education to bedside, Healing on Wheels: holistic care with a mobile trolley, and Angels of Compassion: staff recognition initiative.

The opening ceremony concluded with a recognition of AWH Patient and Family Advisors, and ACC’s PCC champions, acknowledging their dedication and efforts throughout AWH’s PCC journey.

The first ribbon-cutting was held at AWH main lobby, where Ms. Salwa Al Rawaili, AEDoN, Ms. Muna Atrash, PCC Specialist, and the event organizers, embarked on a guided walk-through the roadshow where each PCC driver symbolized a specific color. AWH esteemed PFAC passionately advocated for PCC and invited the community to join the partnership journey. The participants were also invited to relax in a massage chair, savor a cup of coffee and listen to soft piano music performed live by our talented staff creating a soothing and restorative environment.

The second ribbon-cutting took place at Al Maha by Mr. Mohammad Aldosari, AWH’s Executive Director (ED) and Dr. Almunzer Zakaria, A/ED of Clinical Services and Development, highlighting the Qatari identity with a live popular band welcoming the guests which was organized by Ms. Bana Al-Sai, Public Relations Manager. The venue featured Sadu chairs majlis, a group of craftsmen, Arabic coffee and Al Hanayat showcasing the Qatari hospitality and culture firsthand. It was a cultivated exhibition by Aman Center for Protection and Social Rehabilitation, coinciding with International Children’s Day. Moreover, Qatar Sports for All Federation organized engaging sports competition for all age groups including hospitalized children.

AWH executives extend their appreciation to everyone who has contributed to AWH’s journey toward excellence in PCC. This includes PCC champions, PCC drivers leads and co-leads, criterion leads, CPESE, and the entire PCC Roadshow organizing team, their collective efforts made this achievement possible.
