WWRC Hosts an Interactive PCC Roadshow: Engaging the Community and Showcasing Best Practices in Person-Centered Care

From September 8 to 9, 2024, the Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) hosted the Person-Centered Care (PCC) Roadshow, an engaging platform designed to involve staff, patients, families, and the wider community while showcasing the successful PCC best practices implemented at WWRC.

The event commenced with a cake-cutting ceremony, attended by HMC’s executive leaders, including Mr. Nasser Al Naimi, HMC’s Chief of Patient Experience and Director of Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute, Dr. Hilal Al Rifai, CEO and Medical Director of WWRC, Mr. Hamad Al Khalifa, Chief of Health Facilities Development, Dr. Hanadi Khamis Alhamad, Deputy Chief for Long Term Care, Rehabilitation and Geriatric Care, Dr. Huda Al Saleh, Executive Director of Quality and Patient Safety and PCC Specialist at WWRC, and other HMC leaders, including Ms. Nadya Al Rauili, Executive Director of Private Nursing Services, Home Healthcare Services, and Community Medical Equipment Services, and Ms. Mariam Al Mutawa, A/Chief Nursing Officer. The ceremony emphasized the importance of PCC in transforming healthcare delivery at WWRC.

The PCC Roadshow activities were organized and presented by WWRC’s PCC core team members, in collaboration with their Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) members. The Center for Patient Experience and Staff Engagement (CPESE) team supported WWRC with a mobile PCC booth and encouraged participant engagement in the activities prepared by WWRC. PCC Specialists and other staff members from various HMC facilities undergoing PCC certification and recertification processes also attended.

WWRC featured a variety of activities during the PCC Roadshow, including:

  • Art Therapy Table: A non-verbal, safe, and culturally sensitive space where women, including pregnant women, could explore emotional well-being through creative expression. This activity was introduced by special guests from the Flourishing Minds Clinic, Ms. Trish Bedford, Art Psychotherapist and Dr. Tina Balachandran, Clinical Director, emphasizing the benefits of art therapy, particularly in helping women find calm, emotional connection with their unborn child, and the healing power of creativity.
  • Resource Distribution: PCC-related flyers and educational materials were distributed to patients to enhance their understanding of PCC practices.
  • Interactive Information Sessions: WWRC’s PCC team members led discussions on PCC initiatives and patient materials, providing insights and greater awareness of PCC principles.
  • ‘Ask Me’ Corner: An open space where participants could engage in discussions about PCC best practices, encouraging knowledge-sharing and dialogue on PCC initiatives.
  • PFAC Booth: A dedicated booth where PFAC members interacted with participants, explaining what PFAC is, how to become a member, and the benefits of membership.
  • Social Media Integration: PFAC members captured photos and videos of the event, sharing them on their personal social media accounts to increase visibility and engagement.

By hosting the PCC roadshow, WWRC emphasizes the importance of collaboration between patients and healthcare providers. WWRC believes that person-centered care strengthens trust, communication, and satisfaction, leading to improved health outcomes by tailoring care plans to the individual. This approach promotes respect, dignity, and a higher quality of life, ultimately transforming healthcare into a compassionate, personalized, and holistic experience.
