Dr. Georgios Filippou

Dr. Georgios Filippou is a rheumatologist currently serving as a Senior Staff Physician in the department of Rheumatology at I.R.C.C.S. Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio, Milan, Italy. He completed his Master's studies and PhD degree at the University of Siena, Italy, with a thesis titled “Innovative Applications of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Rheumatology". His primary research focus is on the clinical applications of musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) in rheumatology. He has organized several national and international courses and congresses on MSUS.

Dr. Filippou has been a member of the EULAR faculty for ultrasound courses since 2013, a member of the OMERACT Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Group since October 2014, and a member of the steering committee of the Italian Group for Ultrasound in Rheumatology. His research particularly emphasizes the role of ultrasound in rheumatologic conditions such as microcrystalline arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. He also has a special interest in the ultrasound assessment of the peripheral nervous system. Dr. Filippou has published over 100 articles, more than 250 abstracts, and several book chapters about musculoskeletal ultrasound. ​
